Lois Brown

After a long, well lived life of 97 years, Lois Brown Gaffney of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania left this world peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, November 2, 2017, to join her much loved late husband Dr. Paul C. Gaffney.  Predeceased by her eldest child Louise, she leaves her children Dr. Paul (the late Jean), William, Maureen (Paul McCann), Ellen (Louis Odette), Clancy (Ralph Falk), and Dr. Michael (Nina).  Much loved Nanny to Molly, Kate, Anna, and Margaret Gross, Emily, Paul, and Michael Gaffney, Elizabeth and Maura McCann, Louis, Julie, and Bill Odette, Sarah, Laura, Alex and Megan Comeau, and Conor, Claire and Brendan Gaffney and six great grandchildren.   Born in Pittsburgh and raised in Morningside, she was a graduate of Mt. Mercy (Carlow University) College. She and Dr. Paul Gaffney spent many wonderful years on Elgin Street in Highland Park, a second home to their children’s many friends and a vacation paradise to her grandchildren, who fondly remember lively Christmases and happy hours spent in the pool with Nanny and Grandfather. She loved nothing more than to spend her summers with her children and grandchildren.  The worst time of the year for her was the end of the summer when children and grandchildren had to go back to school. She was a sharp bridge player, a consistent blood donor, and a many-year Meals on Wheels driver, well into her 90s.  A devoted Catholic, she was a daily communicant and great supporter of St. Raphael Church in Morningside.   Visitation will be held at McCabe Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, www.mccabebrothers.com, 6214 Walnut Street, Shadyside on Monday, 2-4 and 6-8 pm.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Raphael Church, 1118 Chislett Street, Morningside, on Tuesday at 10 am.  THOSE WISHING TO ATTEND, PLEASE GATHER AT THE CHURCH.  Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lawrenceville, where she will be buried beside her husband Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Raphael School Angel Fund or Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation.
