In her 100th year on Monday, April 12, 2018, of Squirrel Hill.  Beloved wife of the late Donald T. Burns and Charles McConnell; mother of Linda M. Burns and the late Donald T. Burns, Jr. (survived by Christine); grandmother of Susan Grondin (Ryan), Dan Burns, Emily Burns Scott (Christopher) and the late Michael Burns; great-grandmother of Gavin, Logan and Nolan; sister of Virginia Lunt (the late Louis). Preceded in death by sisters, Jane Gohn (Richard), Dorothy Zimmerman (Bud), Florence Soliday (Alvin) and a brother, Charles Raymond (Louise); also survived by nieces and nephews.  Helen was born in Johnstown on July 2, 1918 where she grew up and spent most of her adult life.  After marrying her second husband, Charles McConnell, she moved to Lancaster and then moved to Pittsburgh twenty-seven years ago to live closer to Linda and Emily.  Helen was a gentle woman with a beautiful smile who enjoyed life and loved spending time with her family and friends.  She was always good at math, and in her younger years she worked as a bookkeeper in the accounting department of the Penn Traffic department store in Johnstown and later worked for the General Telephone Company.  Helen was a topnotch pinochle player and enjoyed several card clubs that she belonged to over the years.  Throughout her life, Helen loved reading and flowers and, especially, chocolate.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Bede Church on Monday at 10 am.  Friends will be received in the St. Bede Activities Room for light refreshments after the Mass from 11 am until 12 pm.  Interment to follow at Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown.  Arrangements by McCabe Bros., Inc. www.mccabebrothers.com  Donations in her memory may be made to Special Olympics or the Salvation Army.
