Obituary of John M. Boering

Boering

John M.

Age 71, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Shadyside Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.  John was born on October 23, 1945 to the late Martin and Lenore (Gaston) Boering.  He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Psychology in 1968 and then attended Gateway Technical Institute.  John was a record review supervisor in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 – 1973, when he was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.  He worked briefly for Mellon Bank as a programmer before realizing that his true desire was to work hands-on fixing things.  It was then that John went to work for Franklin West, Inc. in 1978, where he continued to work until his death.  John was a devoted employee of Franklin West, Inc. for 40 years.  John’s dedication to the service provided to the customers of Franklin West, Inc. was unparalleled.  His legacy will carry on as everyone strives to continue his vision on always going above and beyond.  He enjoyed spending time at Phipps Conservatory where he felt much comfort visiting the exhibits.  However, John’s true passion was to help make a better world for children.  He was dedicated to his volunteer work with World Vision, where he volunteered most of his free time in the warehouse.  He desperately wanted to make a difference for children, their families, and their communities worldwide to tackle the causes of poverty and injustice.  His belief was that every child deserves to live life to his or her fullest potential.  John also sponsored many children from third world countries, and a Christmas never passed where John didn’t provide several children with clothing, food and books.  John was a very humble, unassuming person who cared deeply for the underprivileged.  John was a truly great human being, cousin, friend, mentor, and colleague.  He is survived by a cousin, Jane Boering Santillo (Richard), and many friends who considered him family.  A memorial service will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church, 315 Shady Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206, on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.  Contributions in John’s memory can be made to:  World Vision, 210 Overlook Drive, Sewickley, PA 15143.  Arrangements by McCabe Bros., Inc. www.mccabebrothers.com
