Dominic “Mr. D.”

Age 90, of Highland Park, surrounded by family, on Saturday, January 13, passed peacefully into the hands of his Lord. Dominic is now reunited with those who preceded him in death, to include his beautiful and beloved wife Cristina (Asturi), his loving parents Giuseppe Didiano and Rosa (Riga), and treasured siblings Giuseppe, Vincenzo, and Antonio Didiano and Teresa Virdo. A dedicated father to his five surviving children, Joseph (Maria), Bruno (Doreen), Vincent (Sabrina), and August (Debbie) Didiano and Rose Runco (Greg). He was a dutiful grandfather to his ten grandchildren, Dominic (Candice), Kristin Hazel (Matthew), Deanna, Bruno Jr. (Beth), Vincent, Anthony, Dominique and Gina Didiano, Greg (Sarah), and Brad (Jackie Gargiulo) Runco, and two beautiful great-grandchildren Christopher and Cecilia Hazel. Dominic was blessed to have his caring surviving sister, Concetta Cirillo (Battista deceased) of Toronto Canada, and additionally will be missed by loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Dominic was born in Maierato, Italy, where he was always praised for his devotion to family and hard work. He immigrated to Pittsburgh with his soon-to-be-bride Cristina and worked as a Union Laborer. In 1971 “Mr. D” as he was known, opened and operated Didiano’s Mellon Street Market, a neighborhood landmark, for 20 years. Dominic was happiest working in his garden, or sitting under his grape vine, reminiscing about his childhood, his siblings and a simpler time.  Family and friends will be received at McCabe Bros., Inc. Funeral Homes, www.mccabebrothers.com, 6214 Walnut Street, Shadyside on Thursday, January 18, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Friday, January 19, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Raphael’s Church, 1118 Chislett St., Morningside, on Saturday, January 20, at 10 am.  Entombment to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery
