Terry and I both taught at Taylor Allderdice for many years. She was a wonderful, talented art teacher who was adored by her students. But to me, what was so remarkable about Terry was her unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching and her willingness to stand up for what was right even when it meant going toe to toe with the administration. She was not an agitator and got along well with everyone, even the "difficult" students and faculty. But she did not hesitate to speak up when she felt that people or policies were interfering with providing the best possible education for our students.
I am going out of town tomorrow and cannot be at the memorial service for Terry on Thursday but I will always remember her as one of the truly outstanding and committed teachers at Allderdice.
