Richard H. Hess

Of Stanton Heights on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, due to complications related to stroke and diabetes, age 72. Born in Pittsburgh to the late Agnes and Howard Hess, he is survived by his two elder sisters, Barbara Hess and Jean Snodgrass.  Predeceased by a sister, Nancy Hess.  Also survived by 2 nieces, one nephew and a small yet cherished group of friends.  He lived in Florida where he taught for many years before coming to Pittsburgh to teach.  All along he coached sports and was known to many as “Coach Hess.”   He also traveled the USA to teach including on Indian reservations, of which he was especially proud of.  His hobbies were sports, shooting pool and travel.  He loved his time teaching at Schenley High School. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s name to Animal Friends Clinical Services spay/neuter program and or any mental illness advocate/awareness groups.  Funeral and interment private.  Arrangements by McCabe Bros Inc.
