Obituary of Larry Benson Elliott

Larry Benson Elliott, 74, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away on June 21, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. He maintained an amazingly positive outlook throughout his battle and fought to the very end. Larry was born in West Palm Beach, Florida to Thomas L. Elliott and Wilma Elliott on July 5, 1941. He attended Pahokee High School in Pahokee, Florida and graduated in 1959. In high school, he was a star football player and was active in the Glee Club. After graduation, he began his career working a number of jobs including milk delivery in South Bay, Florida, dispatcher for the Palm Beach County Sheriff Department, and a pest control associate with Orkin. He then pursued a new opportunity in the concrete business, where he would spend the majority of his career. This pursuit began with Rinker Materials in Sunrise, Florida, followed by a move to Charleston, West Virginia, in 1976, to advance his career as Plant Supervisor with Chris and Shaver. He continued to grow in the concrete industry and made another move, 9 years later, to Columbus, Ohio, where he became the Operations Manager with Arrow Concrete. After his retirement from the concrete business, he pursued his true passion of impacting lives. He owned and operated a pool maintenance business in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida that gave him the opportunity to make everlasting friendships. He was a friend of each and every one of his customers and considered many friends to be extended family. Larry was very active in the First Baptist Church in Hobe Sound, Florida and in the Church of Christ in Woodsfield, Ohio. Larry is survived by his daughter Terri Cass (Ron), of West Palm Beach, his son Brian Elliott (Lisa), of Richmond, Virginia, his son Bing Elliott of Columbus, Ohio, and his brother Tom Elliott (Kay) of Stamford, Connecticut. He is also survived by his first-born granddaughter Kristine Elliott Seagraves (Tim) of Charleston, West Virginia, who had that special connection with him and lit up his life. His other grandchildren are Nicholas and Lindsay Elliott of Richmond, and Alexandra and Adam Cass of West Palm Beach. He leaves behind several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Thomas and Wilma. Larry’s ashes will be returned to his boyhood home in Pahokee and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held in Shelbyville, Tennessee at a future date that will be announced to family and friends.
