Obituary of John "Tom" McKechnie

McKECHNIE JOHN THOMAS “TOM” Age 74, of Oakmont, formerly of Highland Park, on Wednesday, July 6, 2016. Beloved husband of Virginia “Ginny” McKechnie; father of Kathleen McGonigle (Michael), Megan Byrne (Tom), John McKechnie (Julie) and Douglas McKechnie (Kristin); grandfather of T.J., Claire, Kaylie, Sean, Kelly, Ryan, Mairin, Orla, Lila, Carys and Alice; brother of Michael McKechnie. Tom McKechnie graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in Political Science and specialized in East European studies. Tom taught at Chatham College, the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pittsburgh where he served as the Associate Director of the Center for International Studies. Tom loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed both telling and hearing a good joke and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Friends will be received at McCABE BROS. FUNERAL HOME, 6214 Walnut St., Shadyside on Friday 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. where funeral will commence on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m.
