Francescantonio Greco

Obituary of Francescantonio Greco

Francescantonio Greco Born December 9, 1945, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2020 with his beloved wife, Elisabetta, and his two cherished children, Nicola and Michela, by his side. More affectionately known as Frank, Franco, Papà, Cicco, and — most proudly — Nonno Franco, he lived for his family and loved nothing more than spending the day with his beautiful grandchildren, Daniela and Alessandro. He had an infectious smile and a generous spirit, which he shared with many friends and family alike. Born in Maierato, Italy, Franco and Elisabetta immigrated together, shortly after marriage, to the United States in 1975. They spent the next 45 years together in Pittsburgh, raising their children and grandchildren and continuing the Calabrese traditions they knew and loved, which they passed on to the next generation. He always kept part of Maierato with him, tending to the garden, making wine, and serving as second in command in Elisabetta’s kitchen. He also adopted his new city as his own, cheering fervently for the Penguins — or, in his words, “i pinguini” — and enjoying Aiello’s pizza. Despite a lengthy battle with medical issues, he lived a full and fulfilling life, celebrating many great joys with his family and friends. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he happily shared their stories with all who would listen. He will be greatly missed, but always remembered. In addition to his wife Elisabetta, son Nicola (Anita), and daughter Michela (Alex), Franco is survived by his three loving sisters, Teresa (the late Frank), Palma (the late Giuseppe), and Rosa (Clemente). He was predeceased by his brother, Domenico (survived by Elizabeth), his parents, Nicola and Rosa, and Elisabetta’s parents, Antonino and Anna. In lieu of flowers, we respectfully ask that, as a testament to his generous spirit, you donate to a charity of your choice in his name. Papà, ti vogliamo bene — assai, assai, assai — and although we are heartbroken today, we know that we gained a guardian angel to watch over us. Friends received at McCabe Bros., Inc.
