Obituary of Margaret M. Ward
Margaret “Margie” Ward, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2021 in the Allegheny General Hospital Palliative Care Unit, in the aftermath of a severe stroke. Margie was a lifelong resident of Shadyside in Pittsburgh, PA and an active, lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Shadyside. She was born on June 26, 1940, daughter of William L. and Catherine (Reifsnyder) Ward who preceded her in death. She was the sister of William F. (Marian) Ward; the niece of Reverend John Reifsnyder, and the aunt of David and Joseph Ward. Until her retirement, Margie was employed at West Penn Hospital. She was a kind, loving person whose entire life was driven by a desire to help others. At Sacred Heart, she was a Eucharistic Minister, a CCD teacher, a member and leader of the Women's Guild, a participant in Bible Study, and a participant or leader in every bake sale, clothing drive and charitable activity the Parish chose to run. Margie's compassion extended around the globe via her years-long volunteer work at Global Links and to the animal world via her volunteer work at a local animal shelter. Those whose lives intersected with hers—in her family, her church, her work, her volunteering, in the neighborhood and in the Vincentian Nursing Home where she spent her final year—never failed to be touched by her quiet, unassuming kindness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Jude Parish, Sacred Heart Church on Friday, February 5, at 10 am. The mass will be livestreamed and can be viewed by going to www.saintjudepgh.org Due to the pandemic, there will be no public viewing. A one hour virtual celebration of her life will be held via Zoom on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 2pm EST. The Zoom link to attend is: https://umich.zoom.us/j/6546220191 In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to Global Links, one of her favorite Pittsburgh charities. Condolences may be left here on the McCabe Brothers website.
