I met Jim in the mid-1980's while working for Atlantic Bookshops on Smithfield Street. Jim was assistant manager then, and always made my time there bearable with his intelligence, a heart as big as Venus, and his lightning-quick wit. Jim always manages to be upbeat & rarely has those bad days we mere mortals frequently have.
Jim also saved the day once when he was visiting and my baby daughter tripped on hard uncarpeted stairs and suffered a head injury; he took control, and I don't like to think how it would have gone if he wasn't there at that moment. We will be forever grateful to him!
And even when I moved out-of-state, Jim kept up a correspondence with me that I sincerely appreciated.
Stunned to see that he has passed on. My love and condolences to family and dear friends.
