Obituary of James Duff Moore
James Duff Moore, Sr.
Dr. James “Jim” Moore, 81, of Pittsburgh passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Harmarville after an extended illness.
He graduated from Wilkinsburg High School, Kiski Prep, Westminster College, and Temple University. He received his Doctor of Arts in English in 1991 from Carnegie Mellon University.
Jim retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U. S. Marine Corps Reserves having served one tour in Vietnam.
Jim was a beloved English professor at the Community College of Beaver County for 31 years where he guided hundreds, maybe thousands, of students in the fine art of semi-colon use.
He will be remembered by many for his ability to make and maintain lifelong friendships with people from all over the world, across all walks of life.
Jim is survived by his wife of 34 years, the former Amy Lawson of New Brighton and his son, J.D. Moore, Jr. of Los Angeles. He was preceded in death by his parents, James M. and Louise Duff Moore, of Wilkinsburg.
The family is extremely grateful to the many healthcare personnel who cared for Jim during his final illness.
Friends will be received Saturday, April 23 from 2-4 and 6-8 at McCabe Brothers Funeral Home 6214 Walnut Street, Pittsburgh 15206. A service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood, 120 East Swissvale Avenue Pittsburgh, 15218 at 12:30 on Sunday, April 24.
