Thomas Houpt

Obituary of Thomas V. Houpt

When Tom, 59, of Glenshaw PA, suddenly gained his wings on Friday, February 3, 2023, the angel tasked with showing him around probably didn’t know he would then hear a detailed history of angel wings with facts pulled from a litany of books that Tom happened to read over the past few decades. No matter, the angel would be captivated by his enthusiasm for the topic, and surely within minutes Tom would have made his first heavenly friend. Down here on Earth, that was Tom’s role—friend to everyone. He was most at home with a smile on his face and a story to tell. His adventurous spirit took him on trips around the world. Equally at home ruling the dance floor or quietly reading a book on the beach, Tom truly appreciated the time he was given. A family man through and through, Tom had boundless love for his parents, devoted father Thomas Houpt (Becky) and mother Bonnie Mihok (Marty, deceased), as well as his siblings, Timmy (former spouse Renee), Terry (Kelly), and Tammy (Tom), and step siblings, Matt (Brianna) and Kelly (Deanna). He was also devoted to numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tom was married to the love of his life, Donna Kineavy Houpt, for more than 30 years. His best adventures in life were with her. Tom leaves behind his legacy in son Shane. Tom’s pride in Shane was so great that even he couldn’t come up with enough words to express it. After making his first angel friend, we can be sure that Tom reunited with son Kyle. The next time you hear thunder, listen closely—it may actually just be the sound of a father and son laughing thunderously, together again. Friends received at McCabe Bros., Inc., 5300 Penn Avenue, Bloomfield, on Wednesday, 1-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Christ The King Parish, St. Joseph Church, Dorseyville Road, on Thursday at 10 am. THOSE WISHING TO ATTEND, PLEASE GATHER AT THE CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Tom’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or LifeSavers Animal Rescue. Interment Private. Condolences may be left at www.mccabebrothers.com
