John Horgan Jr.

Obituary of John F. Horgan Jr.

We are very sad to announce the passing of John (Jack/Jake/Toby/Bones) Horgan Jr of the Friendship neighborhood of Pittsburgh . He passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023, surrounded by his family after a long battle with kidney disease. He was well-loved by his many friends and entire family. We will all miss him very much, a great friend, a helping neighbor, wonderful brother and sweet uncle. Of his many accomplishments academically, athletically, and socially, he went to Most Holy Name grade school, graduated from North Catholic Class of 1968, and from the University of Pittsburgh in 1982. He was the MVP of the 1968 Trojan Basketball Tournament, and is in the Duquesne University Hall of Fame for being part of the 1973 Club Football Championship team. He was also the President of his Friendship HOA for 5 years where he spearheaded many long-standing improvements in the growing community, he received a PA House of Representatives Citation for his “noble humanitarian endeavors” with the 400 Roup Committee project, and enjoyed spending many volunteer hours with St Vincent DePaul ministries. He retired from Medi Home Health in 2020. He is predeceased by his parents John F. Sr. and Erma Horgan of Troy Hill and sister, Jill Horgan. He is survived by his sister, Maureen Horgan Shumard, his brothers Dan, Ralph and Ron Horgan, their families and his many nieces and nephews, and his very special friend, Susan Neubert. His family has decided to schedule a Celebration of Life at a later date to be announced to accommodate travel plans for his many out of town friends and family members.
