Obituary of Michael A. Burke

Michael A. Burke Of Pittsburgh on Friday, April 2, 2021, age 67. Beloved husband and soulmate of Mary Grace Burke, and most loving father of Eileen L. Burke; loving brother of Pauline M. Winn of St. Helens, England, uncle of Anthony J. Winn of Manchester, England, and wonderful brother-in-law of Thomas J. Lackey of St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Jennie Burke of St. Helens, England. Born in Liverpool, Michael graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1973, and obtained a Masters’ degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh in 1977, during which time he met his future wife, Mary Grace Lackey. Mike obtained his PhD in Metallurgy at the University of Sheffield. He had a distinguished career at Westinghouse Science and Technology Center, Siemens-Westinghouse Power Generation, and the Westinghouse Electric Co. He was most recently Senior Technical Executive in nuclear materials at EPRI. Mike greatly enjoyed his many friends and colleagues around the world, particularly his football/soccer buddies, and was an avid Manchester United supporter from birth. Visitation on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 PM at McCabe Brothers Funeral Home in Shadyside. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul Cathedral on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 10 AM.
