Obituary of Arlene D. Trichtinger

Dedicated educator in Pittsburgh and long-term resident of Squirrel Hill went to her eternal reward on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at the age of 90. Daughter of Andrew and Catherine Turlick, Arlene was born on October 7, 1930 in Duquesne, PA.. Arlene attended Holy Trinity elementary school then was the class valedictorian of Our Lady of Mercy Academy. Arlene graduated in 1952 from Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University) with a major in speech therapy. She remained actively involved in alumni activities with her high school and college for the next 70 years. She married Martin A. Trichtinger and taught sixth grade in Wilkins Township (now Woodland Hills) School District. After earning a Masters of Science in Reading in 1973 from Duquesne University, she served as a reading specialist with the Pittsburgh Public Schools during most of her 20-year teaching career. She enjoyed her travels throughout the U.S. and Europe. For more than 30 years, Arlene was a devoted caretaker for her late husband after his retirement due to health issues.. A deeply spiritual woman, Arlene recited the rosary daily and was actively involved with St. Philomena Parish and the school’s PTA. Throughout her life, she valued education and reading. As a loving grandmother, she took pleasure in reading to her grandchildren. She was instrumental in encouraging their interest in travel, theatre and literature. Arlene took great pride in her children’s and grandchildren’s milestones and professional achievements. She generously supported their pursuit of their educational endeavors, sports activities, and interests. She enjoyed having coffee with her sister, shopping excursions, and family outings such as Kennywood Park. A gracious and exceptional woman, Arlene will be deeply missed. . She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Martin A. Trichtinger. She is survived by her children Brother David Trichtinger, F.S.C. of Beltsville,MD; Dr. Martin D. Trichtinger (Janice) of Horsham, PA; Dr. John Trichtinger (Kathleen) of Penn HIlls, PA; Mary Trichtinger Moore (James) of Bangor, Maine and grandchildren: Timothy (Xin), Rachel, Jessica, Kevin, Kristen and Lauren Trichtinger, Brendan, Nicholas and Ryan Moore and great grandchild Emma Trichtinger. Arlene is also survived by her sister Audrey Scholle Fusco and many nieces and nephews. Friends received at McCabe Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 6214 Walnut Street, Shadyside, on Friday, 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Mary Magdalene Parish, St. Bede Church on Saturday at 11 am. THOSE WISHING TO ATTEND PLEASE GATHER AT THE CHURCH.
